Using a slightly simpler carbon layup and material, the AIR 9 Carbon benefits from the same extensive refinement and testing that went into the AIR 9 RDO. The result is a slight difference in weight but the same fast, responsive ride you expect from Niner. The rigid sides of the down and top tubes maximize torsional stiffness, while the flat sections on each tube act as leaf springs for a buttery-smooth ride. Combine these elements with Niner’s proven 29er geometry, and you have a race machine that’s ready for the abuse of everyday riding. The AIR 9 Carbon 1-Star is a face-first dive intomountain biking, locking in solid specs on a race-worthy rig. A RockShox Reba RL Air fork dutifully soaks up 120mm of momentum-robbing trail debris, allowing the incredibly grippy and fast-rolling Maxxis Ikon tires to blast around the course unfettered by obstacles that want to shake you off your line. Shimano’s ever-diligent Deore drivetrain will keep your power translating into speed, while matching Deore hydraulic disc brakes let you modulate that speed to carve fast lines and maintain smooth control.
