Built of tough 4130 chromoly, Niner’s ROS 9 wants to plummet down loose, washed-out scree chutes and loft steep rollers while you fight back the giggles. ROS’s beefed up tube set takes advantage of Niner’s innovative rear dropout design which makes it easy to set up the ROS exactly the way you want it—with gears, single speed, whatever turns your lights on—all with the acceleration and responsiveness you get from a 142 x 12mm through-axle in the back. Niner thought of everything when they designed the ROS, adding internal dropper post routing, removable front and rear derailleur hangers, and even integrated MRP bash guard mounts on the bottom bracket shell. The 44mm head tube allows you to run a tapered fork, greatly increasing front end rigidity so your ROS tracks straight where you aim it. That means when you dive into shenanigans that might trouble Mom, you’ll having the tools to ride it out and show up to Sunday brunch more or less intact. Niner’s ROS 3-Star XT 1x is built to get rough and rowdy. The 140mm-travel RockShox Pike RC fork eats up rocks, roots, or rutabaga to keep you railing your probably questionable line. The svelte Shimano XT 1 x 11-speed drivetrain gives you a generous range of gears with a monster cassette and XT Shadow Plus rear derailleur for a clean, lightweight setup that ensures you drop the hammer, not your chain. While we’re on the subject of dropping, when you’re losing elevation like a lead balloon, you’ll be thankful for the ruthless Shimano XT brakes that slow your marginally-controlled self, so you rail the corner and avoid any cacti cartwheels. And, Niner threw on a KS dropper post, allowing you to instantly switch spirit animals from mountain goat to downward dog so you can make the most of every section of trail.
